The Dawlish black swans have brought people to the town from all over the world since the 1940s. Originally native to Australia and first recorded in the 17th Century, the swans have helped to contribute to the towns growth, popularity and tourism.
Recently, a black swan video went viral on the Dawlish Beach Cams Facebook and YouTube channels, seen by over 18m people worldwide and currently being viewed by around 100,000 people per day.
Dawlish Beach Cams was established in 2014 by Neil Salter, who’s late fathers’ passion for trains brought him to the traditional seaside town of Dawlish in Devon. Dawlish Beach Cams began its journey with one live streaming camera covering the passing trains and stunning seaside views. Dawlish Beach Cams grew in popularity after the famous storm of 2014 when part of the sea wall collapsed leaving the railway line hanging in mid-air, closing the line for 6 weeks. Thousands of people, from all over the world, flocked to the online camera to watch the sea wall being rebuilt by the locally named, Orange Army. Dawlish Beach Cams now have 6, state of the art cameras with 24 hour live streams of Dawlish and its surrounding areas along with this latest venture, the Black Swan Cam.
Black Swan Cam officially launches on the 17th October 2020 at midday and will be opened by the Mayor of Dawlish, Councillor Alison Foden. Special thanks goes to Sea Breeze for offering their café as the perfect location for the Black Swan Cam.
